Community

Whether they live in New Orleans or Shreveport, Lake Charles or Monroe, or any Louisiana town in between, LSD students are at "home" in Baton Rouge. Our school is not just "located" in Baton Rouge, it is part of the Baton Rouge community. Individuals, organizations, churches and businesses show their support and friendship to our school in many ways - from educational grants to maintenance of our flowerbeds. Volunteers have built playgrounds, organized bookrooms, made copies, laminated classroom materials - the list is endless.

In our Baton Rouge area are several organizations and clubs serving the needs of the Deaf community, but the "heart" of the Deaf community in Louisiana Deaf will probably always be our school. Our annual Homecoming Weekend in the Fall and our Graduation Ceremony in May are very special occasions when current and former students, staff and "LSD family" come back to LSD to enjoy catching up with old friends.

This section of our website contains information about local organizations, churches and clubs which serve the Deaf community. Information about service providers such as the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf and Deaf Action Centers can be found in the Resources section of the site.

What is the AmazonSmile Foundation?

The AmazonSmile Foundation is a 501(c)(3) private foundation created by Amazon to administer the AmazonSmile program. All donation amounts generated by the AmazonSmile program are remitted to the AmazonSmile Foundation. In turn, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates those amounts to the charitable organizations selected by our customers, such as the Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation. Amazon pays all expenses of the AmazonSmile Foundation; they are not deducted from the donation amounts generated by purchases on AmazonSmile.

How does AmazonSmile work?

When first visiting AmazonSmile, please type in “Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation” and then “select” Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation. There’s nothing more for you to do but start shopping! For eligible purchases at AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to us. For your future visits to amazon.com, you will be prompted to switch over to www.smile.amazon.com so that we will benefit from your eligible purchases. How easy is that?

How does LSD receive the donations?

Each quarter, the AmazonSmile Foundation makes a donation to Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation. Donations will be transferred approximately 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter. To account for product returns, a portion of the quarterly donations will be withheld until the next donation cycle, subject to any reduction due to returns from prior quarters.

What’s the catch?

There isn’t one! Information on your purchases is secure: Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation will not be sent any details on what you have purchased.

Anything else?

Please help us spread the word on AmazonSmile by mentioning it on your Facebook page or your LinkedIn profile…any way that you share information with friends, family, and colleagues in your social and professional networks. We hope that they, too, join this effort to increase the resources available to Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation and the children and families we support. Now with just a few clicks, you can ensure those children and their families have access to the incredible resources, life-changing programs, and expert staff at Louisiana School for the Deaf.
